Introduction At LGS, our aim is to produce confident and successful learners. We nurture in our students, a love of learning and help them establish a safe and healthy lifestyle. We wish to produce tolerant and responsible citizens through character building, civic sense and environmental awareness. Our curriculum aims to enable students to become successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and learn to achieve independently. The syllabus is not based only on a set of text books but on a checklist of learning objectives and attainment targets. To provide an authentic process for assessing student understanding, assessments are ongoing and unannounced. We strive to enable students to synthesize and apply their learning of previous years, as they progress from one grade to the next. Our resources include a range of text books, handouts, multimedia, lab and field work. Children are taught to use the dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, interviews, surveys, the library and different search engines as tools of learning. We are a Cambridge Associate School, approved by CIE. Cambridge Primary Checkpoint in Year 5 is designed to be a diagnostic test and is not a pass/fail test. The results give us an international benchmark of the student’s performance to identify and address learning needs in English, Mathematics and Science. Diagnostic and Progression Tests in Math, Science, English and Urdu are internal evaluations held at the beginning and end of the school year respectively. They help us assess our students' academic strengths and needs. These tests are not graded and the results are not sent home. We use the results to modify the curriculum for our students’ benefit. Reports are issued at the end of each academic quarter.
Each student’s progress is monitored closely by the Principal, Counsellor, Coordinators and Teachers. We keep a vigilant eye on the academic growth and progress of every student. Our goal is to help all students do their best. We are well aware that grades are not the only criterion to measure a child’s worth. However, if a student does not show promise and improvement in meeting the required attainment targets by the end of the academic year, he/she may be: Accommodated / Conditionally Promoted – the student is bound to maintain a minimum of C grades in all the main subjects for promotion into the next class. Detained – the student is not capable of handling the next level of learning unless the existing gaps are filled, is underage and struggling to meet the learning objectives or was already Conditionally Promoted. Asked to leave – the student has already been detained/ promoted conditionally and is still unable to meet the minimum attainment targets. Why It Matters: Students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently. When students miss a concept, it is often difficult for them to catch up to the same extent as the rest of the class. Habitual absenteeism directly affects a student not only academically but socially and emotionally too. Punctuality School gates close at 7:45 am Why It Matters: It is imperative for students to be on time as discipline, safety and security go hand in hand. Students who come in late to school miss out on critical instructions given by teacher in homeroom and disrupt the rest of the class.
